Free Age Calculator

Find your exact age in years, months, and days from a date of birth, plus your total age in days and a countdown to your next birthday.

Enter a date of birth to see the exact age.

Quick answer

An age calculator finds the time between a date of birth and a reference date (today by default). It reports full years, then the leftover months and days, using the calendar — so it correctly accounts for different month lengths and leap years.

Formula & method

Age is computed with calendar arithmetic, not a fixed “365.25 days per year” shortcut. The tool counts complete years from the birth date to the reference date, then the remaining whole months, then the leftover days, borrowing from the previous month’s length when needed. Leap days are handled naturally because real calendar dates are used.

Examples

Example 1: Born 2000-01-15, on 2026-06-05
Input
DOB 2000-01-15
Result
26 years, 4 months, 21 days
Why
26 full years to 2026-01-15, then 4 months and 21 days more.
Example 2: Total days
Input
Same date of birth
Result
≈ 9,638 days
Why
The exact day count, including leap days, is shown alongside.
Example 3: Next birthday
Input
DOB 2000-01-15
Result
224 days until the next birthday
Why
Counted from the reference date to the upcoming January 15.

When to use this tool

  • Finding an exact age for a form, eligibility check, or milestone.
  • Counting down the days to a birthday or anniversary.
  • Working out how many days old you (or something) are.

Common mistakes

  • Estimating age as days ÷ 365. That ignores leap years and drifts over time.
  • Forgetting that age in months isn’t simply years × 12 plus a guess — month lengths vary.
  • Mixing date formats; enter the date of birth clearly to avoid day/month confusion.

Frequently asked questions

How is exact age calculated?

By counting full calendar years from the date of birth to the reference date, then the remaining whole months, then the leftover days. Real dates are used, so leap years are handled correctly.

Does it account for leap years?

Yes. Because the calculation uses actual calendar dates rather than an average year length, leap days are included automatically.

Can I calculate age on a date other than today?

Yes. Set the reference date to any day to find how old someone was — or will be — on that date.

Why might my age in days differ slightly from another tool?

Some tools round or use time zones differently. This one counts whole calendar days between the two dates.

Is my date of birth uploaded?

No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser; the date you enter is never sent to a server.
